BHATTI MINES PILOT PROJECT: A learning with a difference

In an employment survey commissioned by the Delhi Directorate of Economics and Statistics and the Centre for Market Research and Social Development(CMSD) between September-November 2020, observed a sharp surge in unemployment rate in from 11.1 per cent in January-February 2020 to 28.5 percent in October-November. To surprise of the competent authorities, the survey also registered an alarming drop in the share of women in the workforce, with a large section of graduates and postgraduates girls remaining out of the workforce.

In order to streamline the future of girls and provide them with promising livelihood opportunities to work, Aambra Foundation, an NGO working steadfastly on the mission of gender empowerment for more than a decade, helmed a well designed and oriented pilot project in July, 2021 in Bhatti Mines, New Delhi. As a precursor to the three month long rigorous training, orientation sessions with community girls were also organised.

As part of the pilot, Paramdedics professional training was undertaken under the aegis of Samriddhi pillar of Saheli Samanvay Kendra to economically empower and make beneficiaries self reliant. The one of its kind innovative initiative as conceptualized by Aambra facilitated a fully sponsored professional Clinical and Non-Clinical training for the selected beneficiaries. The trainees were professionally trained broadly on Health and Nutrition, Basic Digital Literacy, Geriatric Sensitisation, Basic Spoken English as well as Personality Development Work Motivation.

The initiative garnered appreciation from several prestigious institutions and organisations. The initiative also received acknowledgment from Department of Women and Child Development, Government of NCT, Delhi(GNCTD). Lastly, the project was well supported with uncompromising assistance rendered by Ms Meenakshi Rathod from UN Women as well as Ms Shalini Puri, Community Development Project Officer (CDPO).
